Dear Friends of Utah
To celebrate our 40th year of presenting the Vivaldi by Candlelight concert, Utah Global Diplomacy is bringing you the crème de la crème of the Baroque Era. This year's program features masterpieces by arguably the four greatest composers of their era - Antonio Vivaldi, Johann Sebastian Bach, Arcangelo Corelli, and George Frideric Handel - while reflecting our mission of fostering respect and understanding among all people in the world.
For this reason, I cordially invite you to join Utah Global Diplomacy in attending our signature fundraising event, the Vivaldi by Candlelight concert, on Friday, December 2 and Saturday, December 3.
Music is an effective form of diplomacy. As a universal language that breaks down language barriers and cultural differences, music can help us make sense of the world we live in. Furthermore, music promotes cooperation, understanding, and mutual respect among people and nations, thus contributing to a culture of peace and social cohesion.
Take the grand finale of this year’s concert as an example. King George II commissioned Handel to create Music for the Royal Fireworks to celebrate the signing of the Treaty of Aix-la-Chapel in 1748, bringing an end to the War of the Austrian Succession and restoring peace to Europe. An estimated audience of 12,000 attended the outdoor premiere, at which a massive fireworks display followed the performance. Though the fireworks were a disaster, the music became an immediate favorite that continues to this day.
The Vivaldi by Candlelight concert's fireworks will be exclusively musical, featuring an expanded Baroque orchestra of strings, winds, brass, timpani, and a guitarlike instrument you may never have heard of called the theorbo, and set to candlelit ambiance with a message of peace and universal friendship.
Not to mention, your ticket purchase for our annual Vivaldi by Candlelight concert directly supports our mission, programs, and services - a portion of your Vivaldi concert ticket price is tax-deductible.
And while I hope to see you at the Vivaldi concert, I understand that life is busy. If you are not able to attend the concert, please consider making a donation to Utah Global Diplomacy instead. Click here to learn how you can donate to Utah Global Diplomacy today.
