Laynee, Youth Diplomat

Get ready for the countdown! In just one week, the winners of the Academic WorldQuest will be traveling to Washington D.C. to compete at the national level competition. One of the winners attending is Laynee Hall, a junior at Highland High School who has been involved with Utah Global Diplomacy for over two years. Laynee first learned about the Utah Global Diplomacy through her mother, who introduced her to the executive director. Although she had always been interested in world events, Laynee didn't know how to make an impact as a 17-year-old until she joined the Utah Global Diplomacy.

Through the Utah Global Diplomacy youth programs, Laynee has had the opportunity to not only learn about international issues, but also interact with them on a micro level. During the Covid-19 pandemic, Laynee helped plan and participated in a diplomacy simulation with youth from Utah and Mexico. This experience helped her understand the complexity of diplomatic discussions and the importance of open discussion, understanding different perspectives, and collaborative efforts to achieve equitable solutions.

Laynee has continued to build her experience as a citizen diplomat by participating in a variety of Young Diplomat programs. She finds the Utah Global Diplomacy to be a unique space where she can meet and interact with like-minded people who share her desire for international engagement on both a local and global level. Laynee's ultimate goal is to use her voice to make a difference in the world, whether through pursuing a career in international policy or a STEM-related field like aeronautical engineering.

Laynee is excited to attend the Academic WorldQuest competition at the end of April, where she will have the opportunity to engage with like-minded young people on a national level. She is looking forward to visiting different embassies and meeting foreign dignitaries during the group's time in Washington D.C. We are honored to have Laynee in the Young Diplomats Program and wish her and her team the best of luck at the competition!Academic_WorldQuest_March_2023_photos_by_Mic_Berger7A0898.jpgLaynee with her team, second from the rightAcademic WorldQuest March 2023 photos by Mic Berger7A0952Laynee, Second from the right
